Saica Manchester produces four million tonnes of recycled paper

January 04, 2022
Known as PM-11, Saica employs around 250 people directly and indirectly at the site in Partington, Greater Manchester, where it manufactures recycled paper for the packaging Industry.

The corrugated giant said this equates to recycling an equivalent amount of paper to that produced by 96 million trees.

The PM-11 mill employs high-end technologies to minimise the environmental impact of producing containerboard papers and is designed to use 40% less water and 50% less electricity per tonne of paper than the industry’s guidelines.

Pasi Hayrynen, Plant Manager at PM11, said: “As a business we are wholly committed to the circular economy, and the work we do at PM11 plays an important part in that. Demand for corrugated cardboard packaging is on the up and it is vital that sites like ours can help to produce as much of that as possible in a sustainable manner. The team at this site have been breaking records since it started almost 10 years ago and it is testament to their dedication and teamwork that they have hit this significant milestone.”
